phpBB is continuing its process of opening up the development process. After an internal trial phase we have now opened up the Junior Developer Team to regular members of our community. An increasing amount of people involved in phpBB development should both speed up the development and improve quality.
During our internal testing phase TerraFrost and bantu have been Junior Developers. If you are following the svn commit mailinglist you probably noticed their work already. They have been contributing regularly and fixed quite a large number of bugs. We have since decided to invite TerraFrost onto the regular Development Team – a step we might repeat with other Junior Developers.
Our latest additions to the Junior Developer Team are nickvergessen, rxu and leviatan21. Their main task is fixing bugs. Before they commit their patches to our subversion repository they are reviewed by a Development Team member who makes sure all coding standards are met. Junior Developers can also work on entirely new features for an upcoming release. Along with all other team members they have access to our Development Forum in which strategic discussions about future phpBB development take place. They are welcome to contribute their own ideas and opinions in this forum.
Joining the Junior Development Team is by invitation only. If you’re interested in contributing to phpBB you should take a look at our Getting Involved page in the development section. Junior Developers are chosen based on their activity in the community and their prior experience. Detailed bug reports, useful comments on bug reports and submission of patches are much appreciated contributions which will certainly be noticed.
Congratulations to the new junior developers! I hope everything will go even faster in developmental plans and proceed to overjoy us users with your work.
